Start a contract review
To review a contract against a playbook, open the Contract review area, select New review, choose a contract and a playbook, and select Start review. Like all workflows, contract reviews run in the background, so you can carry on with other work while you wait.
Where contract review lives
The Contract review area holds two views, and a toggle in its command bar switches between them. Each side of the toggle carries a count, and the heading and the main button change with the view you are in.
- Contract review — the panel you start a review from, and the Recent reviews table beneath it. Its main button is New review.
- Playbooks — your team's library of issues. Its main button is Upload playbook. See Manage playbooks.
Start a review
- In the Contract review view, select New review. The Start a review panel expands.
- Choose a contract and a playbook. Start review stays unavailable until you have chosen both. The contract you choose may show an indication of its size. Contract review works on Word documents (
.docx) uploaded with their default processing. Any other document, such as a PDF, is listed marked "Word documents only" and cannot be chosen; a Word document still being processed is marked "Processing…" until it is ready. - Set the options you want. They are described below.
- Select Start review.
The panel closes and a row for the new review appears in the Recent reviews table. You can start another review straight away.
To close the panel without starting anything, select Cancel, or select New review again. No review is started.
Options
- Issues to analyse — analyse All issues in the playbook, or name the particular issues you want. Narrow the scope when only part of the playbook bears on the contract in front of you.
- Analysis only — return the findings without drafting the proposed amendments.
- Model — choose between Thorough — highest quality, which is the default, and Fast — quicker and lower cost.
- Existing track changes — choose what happens to tracked changes already in the contract. By default the other side's changes are preserved as they stand. The alternative accepts them into the base text before the review begins.
A collapsible Advanced options section fine-tunes how the analysis runs. You can leave it as it is.
Track your reviews
The Recent reviews table lists the reviews you started. To see your team's reviews as well, select Show team reviews, the people button beside New review; it is highlighted while team reviews are shown, and your choice is remembered. A review counts as yours if you started any of its runs.
Each row shows:
- Contract — the document reviewed.
- Playbook — the playbook it was reviewed against.
- Date — when the review ran.
- Issues — how many findings the review produced.
- Amendments — the state of the proposed drafting.
Rows are grouped by contract and playbook. The latest review of a pair is the row you see, and the runs it supersedes sit under a history expander on that row. Sort by Contract, Playbook, or Date, and use the filter on the Contract column to narrow the table to one contract.
While a review runs
A review appears as Queued as soon as you start it, and becomes Processing once it is under way. If a run stops making progress, the marker changes to Taking longer than usual. Select either marker to open the progress view.
If a request has not started a review
The request remains visible even if a review session has not yet been created. Queued means it is waiting for a worker; Starting means the worker has started. Taking longer than usual indicates a delay, not a confirmed failure.
A confirmed failure, cancellation, timeout, or request that could not be admitted shows its own explanation. Already running means the same contract was already being reviewed against the same playbook, so the request did not start a second review; wait for that review to finish before trying again. Where Review retry is available, it opens the usual start-review form so you can check the settings. It does not start another run automatically or remove a previous successful review. If the status cannot be confirmed, the page says so.
When a review has finished
- Open → opens the review. It is unavailable for reviews you ran as Analysis only, because those produce no proposed drafting to open.
- Re-analyse, in the row's ⋯ menu, runs the same contract against the same playbook again.
- Delete review, the bin button on the row, removes the review and all its earlier runs from the table for everyone in your team. You are asked to confirm first. It is unavailable while any of the review's runs is still in progress.
